# Log in to your broker once, and the app sets MetaTrader up for you

You give the app your account number, your trading password and your broker's server name. The app opens MetaTrader 5, installs its trading bridge and switches algo trading on.

- The broker server has to be exact, capital letters included. Pick it from the app's list whenever you can.
- Use the trading password, the one that can place orders. The investor password is read-only.
- Connected means your broker let the account in. Typed in the app, your password goes straight to MetaTrader on your PC. With the app on your own computer, a password typed in the Desk is encrypted in your browser for that app alone: relay2trade.com cannot read it, and Relay2Trade never saves it.

## Where you log in, and what "connected" means
The MetaTrader 5 panel is on the app's Connections page. Connected means the broker let the account in. The chip on the Dashboard then reads "MT5 · your account @ your broker" in green. Until then it is amber: "MT5 · not logged in to your broker".
A MetaTrader terminal can only log in to a server it already knows. The app looks for your server on this PC first, then in Relay2Trade's directory. When it is in neither, MetaTrader's own broker search finds it.
Logging in takes the account number, the trading password and the broker's server name. The app then opens MetaTrader, installs its trading bridge and switches algo trading on. Give it up to two minutes.
When connected, the panel lists "Account", "Broker", "Account type", "Terminal" and "Trading bridge".

## Your account is already in a MetaTrader on this PC
When a MetaTrader on this computer has already logged in to your account, the app lists it above the form. Each button shows the account number and its server. The app borrows the server details from that MetaTrader, capitals included, so there is no lookup.
1. Open "Connections" and click your account in the list. "Account number" and "Broker server" fill in by themselves.
2. Type the trading password in "Password" and click "Connect".
The list sits under the line "Found in a MetaTrader on this computer — pick one and enter its password, or type another account below:". An account that is not in the list is typed into the form under it.

## Find the server by your broker's name
Start typing the broker's or the server's name in "Broker server" and a list opens under the field. Servers used on this computer come first. After them come servers from Relay2Trade's directory, each with the broker's company next to it. A server from the directory needs no manual lookup.
1. Open "Connections" and type your "Account number" and your trading "Password".
2. In "Broker server", start typing your broker's name and click your server in the list.
3. Click "Connect".
Example: Your broker's email says: login 7304512, server NorthBridge-Live. You type "north" in "Broker server". The list shows NorthBridge-Live and NorthBridge-Demo, both with "NorthBridge Markets Ltd" next to them. You click NorthBridge-Live and then "Connect". The names here are made up. Yours are in your broker's email.
Many brokers run several servers with similar names. Yours is named in the email the broker sent when the account was opened. Demo accounts are on demo servers, live accounts on live ones.
Servers used on this computer are marked "used on this computer". When the directory knows your server, the app fetches what MetaTrader needs to find it.

## If your server is not in the list, MetaTrader finds it
The app looks for your server on this PC and in Relay2Trade's directory. When it is in neither, MetaTrader finds your broker with its own search. You do this once, and it takes about a minute.
1. In the app, type the "Broker server" as your broker writes it and click "Connect". In the dialog "One thing only you can do", click "Open MetaTrader".
2. In the MetaTrader window, click "File", then "Open an Account".
3. In the field at the top, type your broker's name, or the server name from your broker's email. Click "Find your company".
4. Your broker appears in the list, and MetaTrader now knows its servers. Click "Cancel". Leave the rest of the form alone.
5. Go back to Relay2Trade. It finishes the login by itself, usually within two minutes, and the chip on the Dashboard turns green.
The broker in the pictures is an example. Type your own. After your login goes through, the app adds the server to Relay2Trade's directory. Your account number and password are not part of it.
The dialog in the app reads "MetaTrader can only sign in to a server it has looked up before. Yours is:" followed by the name you typed.
While you search, the app installs its trading bridge in the background. From then on the server is known on this computer.
The directory gets the server's name and what MetaTrader needs to find it, so the next person with your broker skips this step.
MetaTrader follows the language of your Windows, so its menus may be translated. "Open an Account" is always in the first menu, above "Login to Trade Account".

## When it does not connect
The panel tells you why. When MetaTrader has written down the broker's answer, you see that answer. Otherwise the panel lists the usual causes, most likely first: the server name is not exact, this MetaTrader has never looked the broker up, or the account number or password is wrong.
What the panel can say: "NorthBridge-Live refused the login for account 7304512: Invalid account." MetaTrader says this for a wrong account number, a wrong password or an account the broker has closed. "MetaTrader could not reach NorthBridge-Live for account 7304512. Check the internet connection and the firewall, then connect again." "Account 7304512 did not log in on "northbridge-live", and MetaTrader gave no reason." Here the capitals are the cause: the server is NorthBridge-Live.
A black chart in MetaTrader that shows only its title means it is not logged in to the broker. Read the reason in the panel on the Connections page, fix it and click "Connect" again.
The panel speaks the app's language. When MetaTrader could not reach the server, the panel says so. Capital letters count in the server name, so copy it from your broker's email. For a broker this MetaTrader has never looked up, use MetaTrader's broker search, described above.

## The MetaTrader the app runs
Every profile runs in a MetaTrader 5 of its own: a separate copy in the app's folder, logged in to that profile's account. The app makes it by itself from a clean MetaTrader 5 it installs from MetaQuotes, so the MetaTrader you already use stays as it is. In its terminal the app adds one chart for its bridge, switches algo trading on and only touches the orders it placed itself.
1. Open "Connections" and log in to the profile's broker account: the app makes its MetaTrader by itself.
2. The first time on a computer the app installs MetaTrader 5 first: wait a few minutes, and allow MetaQuotes' installer if Windows asks.
3. If the app and MetaTrader lost each other, click "Fix MT5 connection".
The first time on a computer the app downloads MetaQuotes' official installer and sets up a clean MetaTrader 5 for itself. It takes a few minutes, and Windows may ask you to allow it.
The app keeps MetaTrader open and repairs the usual problems by itself. For the rest, while the app is not connected to MetaTrader, the panel has "Fix MT5 connection" ("Repair" in the Desk): it reinstalls the trading bridge, switches algo trading back on and reconnects. MetaTrader restarts once, and nothing about your broker login or your charts changes.

## When the broker switches automated trading off
Some brokers disable automated trading on an account. Logging in works and the chip is green. Then an order comes back with: "The broker's server has algo trading disabled for this account — contact the broker." Nothing in the app or in MetaTrader changes it.
Ask your broker to enable expert advisors for your account. Some brokers enable them on request.
The "Algo Trading" button inside MetaTrader is a different switch. The app turns that one on for you, and turns it back on if MetaTrader switches it off after an account change.

## Common setups
- I just opened an account and only have the broker's email → Connections → MetaTrader 5 → Account number and Password from the email; Broker server → start typing the broker's name → click your server; Click "Connect" (Picking from the list avoids typing mistakes, and a server from the directory needs no lookup.)
- My account already works in a MetaTrader on this PC → Connections → MetaTrader 5 → click your account in the list; Password → your trading password; Click "Connect" (The app borrows the server from that MetaTrader, capitals included. No lookup.)
- My broker is not in the list → Broker server → type it exactly as the broker writes it; Click "Connect" → "Open MetaTrader"; MetaTrader → File → Open an Account → type your broker → "Find your company" → "Cancel" (MetaTrader looks the broker up once. After that this computer knows the server.)
- MetaTrader is open but the app says it is not connected → Connections → MetaTrader 5 → "Fix MT5 connection" (It reinstalls the trading bridge, switches algo trading on and reconnects. MetaTrader restarts once.)
- I want to move from my demo account to my live account → Connections → MetaTrader 5 → "Use a different account"; Log in with the live number, its trading password and the live server (A live account is on a different server from the demo one. Pick it from the list again.)
- I changed my password at the broker → Connections → MetaTrader 5 → "Use a different account" if the panel still shows the old login; Same account number and server, the new trading password; Click "Connect" (The app does not keep your password, so it cannot know about the change until you log in again.)
- I want to trade two broker accounts at the same time → "Trading as" → "+ New profile"; Log in to the second account in that profile (MetaTrader logs in to one account at a time, so each profile runs its own copy, up to your plan's limit.)

## Common pitfalls
- "I copied the server name and it never connects." — Capital letters count: MyBroker-Demo and mybroker-demo are different servers. Start typing the broker's name and pick the server from the list.
- "The password is right and it still says Invalid account." — Use the trading password. The investor password is read-only. Your broker's email lists both.
- "My broker has several servers, so I took the first one." — Your account lives on exactly one of them. It is named in the email your broker sent when the account was opened.
- "MetaTrader opened with a black chart and only a title." — MetaTrader is not logged in to the broker yet. Read the reason in the MetaTrader 5 panel on the Connections page, fix it and click "Connect" again.
- "The Dashboard says MT5 · not logged in to your broker, but MetaTrader is running." — The app's bridge is up, and the broker has not let the account in. The panel on the Connections page says why.
- "The dialog asked me to open MetaTrader and I closed it." — When the app cannot find your server, that search in MetaTrader is what makes the login work. Click "Connect" again, then "Open MetaTrader", and follow the steps.

Q: Does Relay2Trade work with my broker?
A: It works with any broker that gives you a MetaTrader 5 account, live or demo. You need the account number, the trading password and the exact server name.

Q: With the app on my own computer, does Relay2Trade see or store my broker password?
A: No. Typed in the app, the password goes straight to MetaTrader 5 on your computer. Typed in the Desk, it is encrypted in your browser for that app alone: relay2trade.com only carries it, cannot read it, and deletes it once the app has it. Relay2Trade never saves it.

Q: Where do I find my broker's server name?
A: In the email your broker sent when the account was opened, next to the login. In the app, start typing the broker's name in "Broker server" and pick the server from the list.

Q: Why does the app ask me to open an account window in MetaTrader?
A: MetaTrader can only sign in to a server it has looked up before. When the app cannot find your server on this PC or in its directory, you search for your broker once in MetaTrader, under File → Open an Account, and click Cancel. The app does the rest.

Q: Can I keep using my own MetaTrader, charts and expert advisors?
A: Yes. Every profile runs in a MetaTrader of its own that the app makes, so the one you use stays yours: your charts, your login and your expert advisors are not touched.

Q: Does MetaTrader have to stay open?
A: Yes, the trades are placed through it. If it gets closed, the app reopens it by itself and tells you.
