# Running Relay2Trade on a VPS

Signals arrive when they arrive. A VPS, a computer in a data centre that stays on, keeps the app reading and trading while your own PC is off, asleep or in your bag. You do not have to rent or install anything first: the Desk on this website sets a VPS up with you in minutes, on any device. This page shows the ways, and then the longest one in full: a Windows VPS you rent and set up yourself.

## Is it for you

A VPS costs money every month. It earns it only if your own computer cannot be on when your groups post.

### When it is worth it

Your signals come at night or while you are at work, your laptop sleeps when the lid closes, or your home connection drops. If your PC is on and awake whenever your groups post, you do not need one.

### What it is

A computer in a data centre that stays on, with the app and its MetaTrader 5 on it. You do not need to open it: the Desk on this website shows what the app does and is where you change it, from a PC, a Mac, a tablet or a phone.

### What it is not

Not the "VPS" button inside MetaTrader: that service hosts only MetaTrader's own robots and cannot run other programs, so Relay2Trade cannot live there.

## The ways to a VPS

All of them start in the Desk, under "Where the app runs". The first three need no Remote Desktop and nothing installed by hand.

### Quick install

A VPS set up for you, with the app already on it, ready in under a minute. It is an optional extra beside a plan, and the demo day includes it. You stop it, start it or remove it in the Desk.

### In your own DigitalOcean account

You approve our application at DigitalOcean, and a VPS is created in your own account with the app on it, in about ten minutes. It is yours: you pay DigitalOcean, and it stays until you delete it there.

### A Linux VPS you already have

One command from the Desk, pasted in a terminal as root or with sudo, installs everything and signs the app in. Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora or Arch, on a 64-bit Intel or AMD machine with 1 processor, 1 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk.

### A Windows VPS you set up yourself

You rent a Windows machine, connect with Remote Desktop and install the app as on a PC. About forty minutes, once: the rest of this page walks through it.

## A Windows VPS of your own: picking one

From here on, this page is for a Windows VPS you rent and set up yourself. Any provider that rents Windows machines will do. These are the things that matter.

### Windows, with a desktop

Windows Server 2019 or newer, or Windows 10 or 11. If the provider asks, take the version "with Desktop Experience": the one without a desktop cannot show MetaTrader.

### 2 cores, 4 GB of memory

Windows itself takes about 2 GB. The app uses 200–400 MB and each MetaTrader terminal another 100–200 MB, and every profile runs its own terminal. 2 GB works for one profile but leaves Windows little room. 40 GB of disk is plenty.

### Near your broker

Choose a data centre close to your broker's servers. MetaTrader shows the ping to each server in its login window; lower is better. If you cannot tell, a European location suits most European brokers.

### Roughly €10–20 a month

That is with the Windows licence included. Some brokers give their clients a free Windows VPS above a certain balance or volume — it is worth asking, and any ordinary Windows VPS works. The contract is between you and the provider; we are not involved and cannot see the machine.

## The Windows VPS setup, step by step

In order. If the VPS is your first install, skip the first step.

### At home first: let your settings wait on your account

In the app on your own computer open Settings, then "Application", and under "Remote control & sync" switch "Sync settings & listeners" on. Your profiles, listeners and limits are then kept on your account, and the VPS picks them up when you sign in there.
- On the VPS you enter your MetaTrader login and sign in to Telegram again.

### Order the VPS

Choose a Windows image and the location. The provider sends you an IP address, a user name (usually Administrator) and a password.

### Connect with Remote Desktop

On Windows press Start, type "Remote Desktop Connection", enter the IP address, then the user name and password. On a Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android use Microsoft's free "Windows App" (it used to be called Microsoft Remote Desktop).
- The first connection warns that the certificate cannot be verified. That is normal for a fresh server — continue.

### Change the password, then update Windows

Press Ctrl+Alt+End, choose "Change a password" and set a long one you use nowhere else. Then run Windows Update until nothing is left and restart, so the machine does not restart by surprise in its first week.

### Install Relay2Trade

Open the browser inside the VPS, open relay2trade.com/download, press Download for Windows and run the setup. Leave "Start Relay2Trade automatically" ticked.
- Windows may warn about a file downloaded from the internet: choose More info, then Run anyway. The setup is signed by Delvarom Systems S.R.L.
- Server versions of Windows usually lack Microsoft Edge WebView2, which draws the app's window. The setup installs it for you; that takes a minute or two.

### Sign in to the app

The app opens relay2trade.com in the VPS's browser: confirm there (one click if you are signed in), or type the same email and password as this website. Only one computer runs the app per account: signing in here signs your home computer out, and your profiles and their settings come down from your account.
- If a profile is missing, press ↻ in the top bar.
- Look through the settings once before anything trades. They are yours, but check them with your own eyes.

### Connect MetaTrader 5 and Telegram

Enter your broker server, login and password; the app installs MetaTrader if it is not there and attaches its trading bridge. Then sign in to Telegram: scan the QR code with Telegram on your phone, or use your phone number and the code Telegram sends.
- Telegram lists a new device called Relay2Trade and may warn about a login from the country your VPS is in. That is this one.
- The session on your old computer is no longer used. If you are not going back, remove it in Telegram under Settings, Devices.
- New to the app? Start on a demo account with your listeners on watch, as the setup guide says.

### Check the two start-up switches

In Settings, under "Application", "Launch at startup" and "Start minimized in tray" should both be on. They are what brings the app back after a restart.

### Close the window — do not sign out

Closing the Remote Desktop window with its X leaves your Windows session, MetaTrader and the app running. "Sign out" or "Shut down" in the Start menu stops everything.

## Coming back after a restart

The app starts when your Windows user signs in, and MetaTrader needs a signed-in desktop to run. After a restart — a Windows update, the provider's maintenance — nobody is signed in, so nothing runs until you connect. Fix that once.

### Let Windows sign in by itself

Download Autologon from Microsoft (search for "Sysinternals Autologon"; it is on learn.microsoft.com), run it inside the VPS, enter your user name and password and press Enable. It keeps the password encrypted, and from then on Windows signs that user in at every start — and the app starts with it.

### Choose when Windows restarts

In Settings, Windows Update, set the active hours to the hours your groups post, so an update never restarts the machine inside them. Better still: once a month, at the weekend when the markets are closed, connect, install the updates and restart it yourself.

### Test it once

Restart the VPS from its Start menu and do not reconnect. Five minutes later open the Desk on this website from your phone. If your profile is running there and it does not say "Your app is offline", the machine looks after itself.

### If it stops a few hours after you disconnect

Some server images end a disconnected session after a time limit. Press Start, type gpedit.msc and go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Remote Desktop Services, Remote Desktop Session Host, Session Time Limits. Open "Set time limit for disconnected sessions", choose Enabled and set it to Never.

## Day to day

Once it runs, you rarely need to connect to the VPS at all.

### Watch it from anywhere

The Desk (at the top of this website, on your phone too) shows whether the app is running, the state of MetaTrader, Telegram and your listeners, your open trades, and the latest signals with what happened to each. It needs "Remote control" on in the app (Settings, "Application", "Remote control & sync"), which it is unless you switched it off.

### Change settings without connecting

In the Desk you approve or dismiss signals, close trades, pause or resume trading, and change settings, listeners and connections; the app applies a change within seconds.

### App updates look after themselves

An update waits until no trade, pending order or approval is open, then installs and restarts the app by itself. There is nothing to do on the VPS.

### A look once a month

Connect, install the Windows updates, restart, and check in the Desk a few minutes later that the app is back (no "Your app is offline").

## Keeping it safe

A VPS you manage yourself holds your broker login and your Telegram session. Treat its Windows password as the key to both.

- A long password that you use nowhere else, and never share the Remote Desktop access with anyone — no signal provider and no support agent needs it, ours included.
- If your provider has a firewall, allow Remote Desktop (port 3389) only from your own IP address. If your address changes often, leave it open and rely on the password.
- Turn on two-factor for your Relay2Trade account, so a stolen password alone cannot sign in.
- Use the VPS for this and nothing else: no browsing, no email, no other downloads.
- Going back to your own PC? Sign in to the app there — that signs the VPS out. When you stop renting it, uninstall Relay2Trade first (Settings, "Application", "Danger zone"): that signs it out, ends its Telegram sessions and removes its data. Then delete the VPS at the provider.

## If something goes wrong

The things a VPS adds on top of the usual. For everything else, the setup guide has its own list.

Nobody is signed in to Windows, so the app has not started. Connect with Remote Desktop once — that signs you in and the app starts — then set up the automatic sign-in described above and test it.
Either the session was ended by a time limit on the server (see "If it stops a few hours after you disconnect" above), or the Start menu's Sign out was used instead of closing the Remote Desktop window.
Microsoft Edge WebView2 is missing, which is common on server versions of Windows. The app says so when you start it and offers Microsoft's download: run it, then start Relay2Trade again. Meanwhile the app keeps running in the tray.
Your account signed in on another computer, and only one runs the app at a time. Sign in again on the one you want to keep.
Older server images ship a locked-down Internet Explorer. Use Microsoft Edge if it is there; otherwise download the setup on your own PC, copy the file and paste it into the Remote Desktop window.
Not by surprise. New Terms are announced by email before the day they apply, and the app keeps running until then. Accept them on the website from any device — once per account — and there is nothing to do on the VPS. If the day passes without it the app pauses, we email you at that moment, and it resumes by itself within ten minutes of you accepting.
They should not: trading hours and days follow your broker's server clock, not the clock of the computer, so the time zone of the VPS does not matter.
