Installing on Windows
How to download and install the Relay2Trade app on a Windows PC or Windows VPS, sign it in the first time, keep it running in the tray and starting with Windows, how updates work, how to uninstall it, the Windows warnings you may see, and what the app sets up by itself.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11, or Windows Server 2019 or newer, 64-bit. On a server version of Windows, take the version with a desktop ("with Desktop Experience").
- A Relay2Trade account (the same email and password as on relay2trade.com).
- Your MetaTrader 5 account details (account number, trading password, server name) and your Telegram account, for the steps after the install.
On Windows the app needs no administrator rights: it installs for your Windows user only. The app uses 200–400 MB of memory, and each MetaTrader 5 terminal another 100–200 MB.
The app trades only while this computer is on and awake. To keep it trading while your computer is off, run it on a VPS instead: see Where the app runs.
Download and install
- On the PC, open relay2trade.com/download and press "Download for Windows". The download is free; your licence activates the app.
- Open the file you downloaded (Relay2Trade-Setup).
- If Windows warns about a file downloaded from the internet, choose More info, then Run anyway. The setup is signed by Delvarom Systems S.R.L., which you can see in the warning itself.
- Follow the setup. On a first install it offers:
- "Create a desktop shortcut" (the Start menu entry is always made);
- "Sign in through relay2trade.com in the browser (one click if you are signed in there)", ticked;
- under "When you sign in to Windows:", "Start Relay2Trade automatically" and "Start in the tray, without opening the window", both ticked. Leave them ticked, especially on a VPS.
- Finish. The app opens by itself, with its icon in the tray near the clock. Its window and each of its pages: The app's window on Windows.
On a phone or a Mac, the Desk shows the download address to open on your PC, with "Copy" and "Send it to myself".
On server versions of Windows, Microsoft Edge WebView2 (which draws the app's window) is usually missing. The setup installs it for you; that takes a minute or two.
Sign in the first time
Signing in is what activates your licence on that computer. There are three ways:
- Through the website (the default). The app opens relay2trade.com in your browser on a page "Sign in to the app", showing your account and the computer. Press "Continue to the app" (one click if you are already signed in there; otherwise sign in with your password, Google or two-factor). The page then says "Done. Go back to the app: it is signed in. You can close this tab." In the app, "Sign in through the website" opens that page again.
- With your email and password. Type the same email and password as on relay2trade.com and press "Log in". With two-factor on, the app then asks for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, or a recovery code. An account that signs in with Google uses "Sign in through the website".
- With a code from the Desk. Handy on a VPS. In the Desk open Account → "Where the app runs" and choose "Windows: sign in with a code" (or "Installed it? Sign it in with a code" on the Windows card), confirm it is you and press "Make a code". In the app choose "Sign in with a code from the Desk", type the code and press "Use the code". The Desk then asks "A computer asks to sign in", with the computer's name: press "Accept". A code works once, for 10 minutes.
After the sign-in, your profiles and their settings come down from your account (with "Sync settings & listeners" on), and the app's setup tour starts. The "Getting started" strip at the top lists the steps: "Log in", "Activate your subscription", "Connect MetaTrader 5", "Connect Telegram", "Add your first listener".
One account runs one app at a time: signing in here signs the app out on the computer that ran it before. See Computers and moving the app.
What the app sets up by itself
- Its own MetaTrader 5. The first time a profile needs MetaTrader, the app installs a clean MetaTrader 5 from MetaQuotes for itself, once. Windows may ask you to allow MetaQuotes' installer. This leaves any MetaTrader you already have alone.
- A MetaTrader 5 for each profile. Each profile gets its own copy of MetaTrader 5 in the app's folder, logged in to that profile's account. Two profiles never share one terminal. In Connections, "Change terminal" offers "Its own terminal" (recommended), "Another install" (a MetaTrader 5 you installed yourself) or "No terminal" (the profile only watches its listeners).
- The trading bridge. When MetaTrader logs in, the app attaches its trading bridge (an Expert Advisor on a chart) and switches algo trading on. The bridge only touches positions it opened itself; your manual trades and other Expert Advisors are left alone.
Then connect MetaTrader 5 and Telegram on the Connections page, in the app or in the Desk: Connecting MetaTrader 5 and Connecting Telegram.
The tray and closing the window
Closing the window does not close the app: it keeps trading from the tray near the clock. To bring the window back, double-click the desktop shortcut or click the tray icon ("Open Relay2Trade"). "Quit" in the tray menu stops the app, and with it all reading and trading.
The switches for this are in the app under Settings → "Application", and in the Desk under Account → Security → "Computers running the app", on the computer running the app ("Application"):
- "Launch at startup": the app starts when you sign in to Windows.
- "Start minimized in tray": that automatic start opens no window. Opening the app by hand always shows the window.
- "Keep running when window closes": closing the window leaves the app in the tray.
"Launch at startup" starts the app when your Windows user signs in, which is different from when the machine is switched on. On a PC that is the same moment. On a Windows VPS, set Windows to sign in by itself, as Running Relay2Trade on a VPS describes.
Updates
The app keeps itself up to date. It hears of a new version as soon as it is out, checks by itself every 10 minutes, and installs updates at the first moment with no open trades, no pending orders and no signals waiting for approval. Every update is signed, and the app checks the signature before installing it. The app restarts into the new version in a moment; MetaTrader keeps running, and open positions stay at your broker.
To update at once:
- in the app, click the version at the bottom of the sidebar, or the update note in the status bar once it says the update is ready ("click to install now (the app restarts)");
- in the Desk, press "Update now" under "Needs you" when a newer version is out.
After an update, "What's new" lists what changed, and points out any of your settings the update changed.
If a version is too old to work with Relay2Trade, the app says "This version is no longer supported" and installs the required update straight away; open positions stay at your broker. If it ever cannot update itself, download the newest setup from relay2trade.com/download and install it over the one you have: you stay signed in.
Uninstalling
- In the app, open Settings → "Application" → "Danger zone".
- Press "Uninstall Relay2Trade" and confirm.
You can also uninstall it from Windows Settings → Apps, where it is listed as Relay2Trade.
Uninstalling signs the app out of your account and out of Telegram (the device leaves Telegram's device list), removes the start with Windows, and deletes the app with its settings and trade history on this computer, together with the MetaTrader 5 it installed for itself and the copies it made for your profiles. A MetaTrader 5 you installed yourself stays, with your own charts; only the trading bridge and its chart are taken out of it. Your open positions stay at your broker, and anything already synced to your account stays too.
Moving to another computer does not need an uninstall: signing in there signs this one out. Uninstall when you stop using a computer, before you delete a VPS at its provider.
If something goes wrong
- Windows warns about the setup. It was downloaded from the internet. Choose More info, then Run anyway; the publisher shown is Delvarom Systems S.R.L.
- The app is installed but no window opens. Microsoft Edge WebView2 is missing, which is common on server versions of Windows. The app says so when it starts and offers Microsoft's installer: run it, then start Relay2Trade again. Meanwhile the app keeps running in the tray.
- The browser on a server refuses to download the setup. Older server images ship a locked-down browser. Use Microsoft Edge if it is there, or download the setup on your own PC and copy the file into the Remote Desktop window.
- "Relay2Trade is already running." Look for its icon in the tray near the clock and open it from there.
- "Confirm your email address first: open the link we sent you." Your account's email is not confirmed yet. Open the link in the email; sign in to the Desk (relay2trade.com/control) and press "Resend the email" to have it sent again.
- "No active subscription". Your account has no plan or running free time yet. Choose a plan in the Desk under Account → "Plan & billing", or use an access pass or a trial day card from your inventory ("Open inventory"), then press "Re-check". Just paid: give it a moment and re-check.
- "Session expired — log in again". Your account signed in on another computer, or your password was reset. Sign in again on the computer you want to use.
- "Terms of service not accepted". Accept the current Terms in the app, or in the Desk, which asks you to read and accept them.
- The app cannot reach relay2trade.com. It names the cause: no internet connection, a firewall or antivirus blocking Relay2Trade, a proxy, or a wrong computer clock. Allow Relay2Trade in the security program, or set the clock to set itself, then try again.
- The app is not on screen. It is in the tray, still trading. Double-click the desktop shortcut.
