Where the app runs

The app does the trading: it reads your Telegram groups and places the trades in your MetaTrader 5. It trades only while it is running, so where it runs decides when it trades: on your own device while it is on, or on a VPS around the clock. You can move from one to the other at any time.

Key points
  • On your own device, a Windows PC or a Linux machine, the app trades while it is on and awake.
  • On a VPS it trades around the clock. You set it up from the Desk on relay2trade.com, on any device: the Desk shows the ways and walks you through the one you pick.
  • One account runs one app at a time. With "Sync settings & listeners" on, your profiles, listeners and limits follow your account when you move.

On a VPS

A VPS is a computer in a data centre that stays on. With the app on it, your signals are read and traded while your own PC is off, asleep or in your bag.

You do not need a Windows PC to set it up. The Desk on relay2trade.com does it with you, on any device, a phone included: it can have a VPS created for you with the app already on it, or put the app on a VPS you already have.

  1. 1
In the Desk, open "Where the app runs": on the Overview while no app runs yet, and under Account → Security → "Run it on a VPS" afterwards.
  2. 2
Pick one of the ways shown there and follow its steps on the page. Each step ticks off as it is done, and the app signs in to your account by itself.
  3. 3
Open Connections in the Desk, sign in MetaTrader 5 and Telegram, then add a listener.
If you can, pick a location near your broker's servers: it shortens the time from signal to order.

The Desk is how you reach an app that has no window, so Remote control stays on there.

After the VPS restarts, the app starts again by itself.

On a VPS you already have

The app runs on Windows and on Linux. On Linux one command installs everything it needs and signs it in; on Windows you install it as on a PC.

  1. 1
Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora or Arch; a 64-bit Intel or AMD machine with at least 1 processor, 1 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk): in the Desk choose "Linux: get the command", confirm it is you, and paste the command in a terminal on that machine, as root or with sudo.
  2. 2
Windows (Windows Server 2019 or newer with a desktop, 2 cores and 4 GB of memory): connect with Remote Desktop, open relay2trade.com/download inside it and run the setup. Sign the app in with your email and password, or choose "Windows: sign in with a code" in the Desk and type the code in the app.
  3. 3
Open Connections in the Desk and sign in MetaTrader 5 and Telegram.
The Linux command works once and is waited for ten minutes. Each step the machine reports gives it more time, and "Give me more time" starts the wait again. If it runs out, make a new one.

The same Linux command works on a Linux computer at home.

A machine that was updated and not restarted since may refuse to start Docker: restart it, then run the command again.

On Windows a few things need setting so that the app comes back by itself after a restart. The guide "Running on a VPS" on this site walks through all of it.

On your own device

A Windows PC (Windows 10 or 11) or a Linux machine. The app trades while that device is on and awake: a sleeping laptop reads nothing. On Linux, the Desk gives you one command, as for a Linux VPS above; the steps below are for Windows.

  1. 1
On that PC, open relay2trade.com/download and press "Download for Windows".
  2. 2
Run the setup and sign in: through this website in your browser, with your email and password, or with a one-time code from the Desk.
  3. 3
Connect MetaTrader 5 and Telegram in the app, and add a listener.
More detail

On a phone or a Mac, the Desk shows the download address to open on your PC.

Moving from one to the other

One account runs one app at a time. When the app is signed in somewhere new, it is signed out where it ran before, so two copies never trade the same signal.

What follows you: with "Sync settings & listeners" on, your profiles, listeners and limits are kept on your account, and the new place picks them up. What does not: your MetaTrader 5 and Telegram sign-ins live where the app runs, so you sign them in once more in the new place.

  1. 1
From the app on your PC: Account → "Run it on a VPS". From the Desk: Account → Security → "Run it on a VPS". Both open "Where the app runs".
  2. 2
Pick the way and follow its steps.
  3. 3
Open Connections in the Desk and sign in MetaTrader 5 and Telegram.
Positions that are already open stay at your broker with their stop-loss and take-profit.

Common pitfalls

✕"The app is on the VPS and nothing trades."

✓The app is running, but MetaTrader 5 and Telegram are signed in where the app runs. Open Connections in the Desk and sign both in, then add a listener.

✕"The page stopped waiting for my command."

✓Ten minutes passed with nothing heard from the machine. Make a new command and paste it. On a slow machine, press "Give me more time".

✕"I cancelled my plan and my VPS still costs me."

✓A VPS in your own account at a provider is yours and is not removed with your plan. Delete it there.

✕"My app on the PC says it was signed out."

✓The app was started somewhere else on your account, and one account runs one app at a time. Sign in on the PC again to bring it back there.

✕"I closed my laptop and the app missed the signals."

✓A sleeping computer reads nothing. Keep the PC awake while your groups post, or run the app on a VPS.
